Once the colonial capital of Brazil, Salvador today pulses with music, history, and living traditions. Festivals, drum circles, and street celebrations fill the historic neighborhoods, while sacred ceremonies honoring African deities through Candomblé continue to shape the city’s spiritual life.
More than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere, the legacy of Africans brought to Brazil during the slave trade has been preserved and re imagined here. Their influence is woven into daily life, from cuisine and music to dance, spirituality, and martial arts traditions.
